Ben Foster, Senior at Lake Stevens High School, recently took Individual first Place Overall Winner in Regional FFA Completion in the area of Nursery/Landscape.
In the competition students worked in school teams of four or five and individually. The categories included plant identification, general knowledge, team activity (problem) and practicum (problem).
In the first category students were asked to identify by name over forty plants, shrubs and trees which ranged to English Ivy to Western Hemlock.
In the team activity students were asked to develop a landscape design for a typical backyard and deck including plans, walkways and materials. In the practicum teams were asked to develop a landscape solution for backyard hill erosion. Finally, they were tested on their overall general knowledge.
All together there were 63 contestants and 15 teams competing from around the region.
Foster has been attending Lake Stevens schools since kindergarten. His parents are Donna and Vern Foster of Lake Stevens. Upon graduation he plans to go into the silk screening business as an addition to the family printing business.
