In mid 2010, a small section of the roadway base on 36th Street NE at Catherine Creek crossing was washed out after a tree fell into the stream.  The damage resulted in the roadway being closed down to one lane for the past two years.

Typically when a road is damaged, repairs can be performed quickly but due to the sensitivity of the adjacent area having a fish stream and wetlands, the City had to adhere to strict State and Federal guidelines in developing a long term repair solution.

As of last month, the City had acquired all the necessary permits and is in the process of scheduling the work to begin in August.

The construction will require the removal of approximately half of the surface pavement and roadway base material west of the Catherine Creek Bridge.

Reconstruction will be performed using a cloth type fabric and reinforced grid earth wall.  During the construction, the roadway is expected to be closed and a detour will be posted.

The public is invited to attend an open house at the downtown Community Center 1808 Main Street from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 18, 2012.
