On the way home from school on Wednesday, October 31, a Cavelero Mid High school bus was hit in the intersection of Highway 9 and 20th St. SE.
“The bus was headed east on 20th St. crossing Highway 9 when a truck, that was headed west on 20th St. turned left and crossed in front of the bus,” Arlene Hulten, Director of Communications for the Lake Stevens School District said. “We had 36 students on board.”
The bus was impacted on the front driver’s side.
The bus driver and a 14-year-old student complained of dizziness and neck pain and were transported to the hospital.
Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions while police investigated. The Washington State Patrol was called in to examine the bus, which is standard procedure after a school bus is involved in an accident.
“At the end of the event we had six students whose families picked them up at the sight and 29 students were off loaded onto a second bus and were delivered home,” Hulten said.
