Drivers and residents on Old Machias Road should prepare for a three-week, around-the-clock road closure starting Monday, Jan. 14.
Old Machias Road will close from 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, between 52nd Street Southeast and 117th Drive Southeast.
Drivers will follow a signed detour route using South Machias and Richey roads. Local access will be provided for residents and emergency vehicles.
During the closure, Snohomish County Public Works crews will make emergency repairs to a slide area on an embankment below the road. High precipitation levels combined with a failing retaining wall caused the slide.
Crews will build an access road down the embankment to reach the slide area, then they will bring in equipment and materials to construct a rock buttress that will support the roadway.
The access road will allow crews to work from the lowest point uphill toward the main roadway.
