Rep. Mike Hope, R-Lake Stevens, sponsored Peter Condyles, 14, from Cavelero Mid High School as a page during this year’s legislative session in Olympia.
“It’s great to see Peter get involved in government at an early age,” Hope said.
The teen attended page school every day during the week he was there in order to better understand the operations and actions of the Legislature.
At the end of the week, Condyles wrote and promoted a mock bill that addressed the issue of high school sports eligibility and would make the standards the same for all school districts in the state.
As additional page duties, Condyles navigated the many buildings on the Capitol campus and delivered messages and documents to legislators and staff.
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For more information about the legislative page program, visit: http://www.leg.wa.gov/House/Pages/HousePageProgram.aspx.
