Storm Aquatics, a competitive swim team in Lake Stevens, WA, canceled its Friday evening practice to hold a Food Drive Fun Night to raise non-perishable food and money donations for local area food banks. Swimmers who brought in a bag of non-perishable food or a $10 donation received a commemorative bag tag to hang from their swim bags. 60 families participated in the celebration of giving which included open swim at the Lake Stevens High School pool, pizza, music, and a contest for fun prizes.
“It’s important for our swimmers to give back to the community which supports them and to help others in need.” Commented Lisa Johansen, coordinator of the event.
The swim team is comprised primarily of swimmers from the Lake Stevens and Snohomish areas. Food (totaling approximately 908 lbs.) and money raised from the event was divided between the Lake Steven Community Food Bank and the Snohomish Community Food Bank. These food banks are always in need of food and appreciate year round donations.
