On Wednesday, Sept. 25, Lake Stevens School District elementary students took part in the Food & Nutrition Department's Taste of Washington event.
Salad bars were stocked with fresh and local fruits and vegetables, and a large map of the state showed where each item came from.
"Taste of Washington is a special event to help kids understand where their food comes from," said Mollie Langum, Lake Stevens School District's Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor. "It's also a fun way to show kids the importance of eating fresh, local food."

Cauliflower—Hayton Farms, Mt. Vernon

Carrots—Schuh Farms, Mt. Vernon
Salad Mix—Sterino Farms, Puyallup
The Food & Nutrition Services Department purchases Washington grown produce throughout the year when items are available.
