Several years ago, Woman’s Day magazine carried a story of a tree on the campus of Green Acres Elementary School near Santa Cruz, California. It seems that the tree began to bear some strange fruit such as apples, oranges, cupcakes, cookies and sandwiches.
Two teachers, Sophie Farrar and Sandra Enz, were concerned about all the uneaten lunches discarded by the students.
They suggested that the unwrapped sandwiches and treats be placed under the tree for those who had forgotten their lunches. The tree became known as the “free food tree.”
It was so popular among the students that some even asked their mothers to pack an extra sandwich or treat so they would have something to put under the tree.
Paul wrote to the Philippians in 2:3-4, “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Share what you have with those around you. God has blessed us all with gifts that will help others as we learn the giving lesson of life.
