A little thing

Several years ago a major airline discovered that leaving its planes in the natural aluminum color saved money.  It takes 690 pounds of paint for a 747. This cost the company $20,000 a year per plane in fuel just to fly the paint through the skies. By replacing the coffee makers aboard their planes with a lighter model they could save $100,000 a year.

These were small things, but they added up to a huge difference on the bottom line.  Just recently Alaska Airlines has replaced the 50 pound bag of maps and charts carried by it’s pilots with an iPod© to save operating costs.

Little things can make a tremendous difference.  According to James if one keeps the whole law but stumbles in just one point he is guilty of the whole law. Obedience to God in everything may seem like a little thing to some, but the difference can be devastating.

A man once came to Jesus believing he had done everything he needed for eternal life.  Jesus told him in Mark 10:21, “One thing you lack.”

This person was unwilling to do the one thing that would have given him what he wanted.  Some today believe that they have done all that is necessary for salvation.

They believe, trust in God and pray, yet have not been baptized into Christ to experience the remission of their sins—a small thing with eternal consequences.

It is important for all of us to study God’s word and to be obedient to that Word that we may know the true lesson of life in Him.
