On Saturday, April 16, the Lake Stevens High School boys and girls track teams headed to Pasco to compete with 1,400 athletes and over 100 teams at the largest one-day high school track meet in the country.
The boys team finished fourth overall and the girls team finished 16th.
Individual Boys highlights included Duke Dolphin in the javelin. Dolphin, a senior turning out for track for the first time, took first place with a throw of 179 feet.
Allan Schmekel also had a great day. He finished second in the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 50.19.
The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Scotty Cochran, Mason Nicol, Tre Harris, and Allan Schmekel placed third overall in a time of 3:24, which now leads the state in the 4A classification.
The girls meet was highlighted by a second place finish by Brooke Pahukoa in the high jump, with a clearance of 5’4”.
Also, the girls distance medley relay of Lacey Wagner, Alex Baldwin, Dakota Pilon, and Cia Bywater placed fifth overall.
