Cantwell Sponsors Legislation to Extend Medicaid Assistance
Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and 32 other senators introduced legislation (S. 3000) to extend a provision in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) which provides states with increased federal Medicaid funding. Under ARRA, states receive enhanced federal Medicaid assistance to help cover the increased Medicaid demand resulting from the economic downturn.
WA Students Walk Out to Catch Lawmakers' Attention
Campus walk-outs and rallies will accompany today's delivery of petitions to state lawmakers from college students and professors, asking that higher education at Washington's state schools be spared any more budget cuts. 8,000 signatures have been gathered on petitions by student groups and the teachers' union, AFT Washington, to be presented to state lawmakers.
