A total immersion experience with one of the world's most legendary choreographers, each of the works on the ALL THARP triple bill speaks with a distinctive voice. Together, they offer a striking demonstration of Twyla Tharp's renowned creative fluency. Opus 111 and Afternoon Ball, commissioned for PNB just before Tharp received Kennedy Center Honors, enlighten from opposing ends of a thematic spectrum: the first is a joyous, folk-influenced ensemble work and the second, a fearless commentary on urban alienation. Waterbaby Bagatelles' bathing-capped women and bare-chested men frolic in an aqueous glow, swept up by the musical currents of seven short compositions—“idiosyncratic and terrific even by the best Tharp standards ... it refreshes simply by washing right over you” (New York Times). Featuring the PNB Orchestra.
