Local Girl Scouts holding Locks of Love event
Lake Stevens Girl Scout Troop 40830 along with Service Unit 210 will be holding a Locks of Love event on Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at Lake Stevens High School.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss. It takes approximately 140,000 hairs injected by hand into a silicone base. This is about six to 10 ponytails and takes four months to complete.
There are many different ways that you can donate to this worthy event.
• Donate your hair, your time or donate cash. Any amount accepted from $1 - $1,000.
• You can sponsor a child for $1,000. This pays for the total cost of providing one cranial prosthesis.
• Donate your time! If you are a hairstylist we are looking for volunteers to come and cut hair. Come for one hour or all four hours.
General guidelines for hair donations: 10” measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece. Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable. However, hair that has been bleached is not usable. Hair that was cut years ago is useable if it has been stored in a ponytail or a braid. Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10”. Curly hair may be straightened to measure 10”
