Preschoolers, seniors coming together
Preschoolers from The Lake Stevens Co-op Preschool, located within the Ashley Pointe Senior Community,
spend time with the seniors that live at Ashley Pointe.
A preschool is not something you’d expect to find on the grounds of a senior living community, but for the Lake Stevens Co-op Preschool, it’s been their home for the last ten years. Tucked away underneath the Ashley Pointe Community in Lake Stevens, at first glance you wouldn’t even know the preschool was there.
Thanks to the efforts of activity director, Debbie Cooper, and the preschool teacher, Joan Pigott, a delightful friendship exists between the children and the residents of Ashley Pointe.
Twice a month, the kids and seniors come together, sometimes to play volleyball, sometimes for sharing and visiting. Near Halloween, the students trick-or-treat at the doors of the residents, on Valentine’s Day there was a card exchange, and around May Day the children deliver baskets of flowers door-to-door.
This unique pairing leads to a special relationship between the preschool children and the women and men who live at Ashley Pointe. It allows each generation to share another special gift; the time they spend together is invaluable and enjoyed by all.
