A second annual Emergency Preparedness Open House will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 795 Ell Road, Camano Island.
The event aims to better prepare the citizens of Snohomish, Skagit and Island Counties for emergencies.
According to Donna Snider, co-coordinator of the open house, “We tend to think ‘it won’t happen to me,’ but when you consider weather-related emergencies, unemployment, fires, and earthquakes, we all could find ourselves in a situation where our readiness could be tested.”
Emergency preparedness strategies, including 72-hour kits, pet care during emergency situations, water purification and food storage techniques, will be shared at the open house. Demonstrations and food samples will be available.
Representatives from local emergency response teams will present information, answer questions and distribute print material, including coloring pages for children.
Admission to the family-friendly event is free.
