LSHS Grad inducted into UW Varsity Boat Club
Carlie Elledge rowing on Lake Washington.
Longtime Lake Stevens resident Carlie Elledge is on to a successful college career at the University of Washington and was inducted into the University of Washington Varsity Boat Club.
Elledge, a constant honor student in the Lake Stevens school system also rowed for the Lake Stevens Rowing Club and in her junior year the team won a gold medal at the prestigious Brentwood Regatta in Canada.
Now in her sophomore year at the UW she is competing for a position on the rowing team with some early success having stroked the JV boat to victory in the Head of the Lake Regatta in October and then recently with a victory over WSU in the women’s varsity four on April 2 racing at home on Lake Washington.
Elledge’s freshman season was a Cinderella story with Elledge entering Washington rowing as a ‘walk on’ after a year off to see if her wait list opportunities at Harvard and Columbia could be converted into admissions. Competing from the bottom she worked up to stroke seat in the Novice Eight and led the Women’s Novice boat to an undefeated season in Pac 10 and a persuasive, open water victory over powerhouse Stanford and Cal teams to win the Pac 10 Championship.
In addition to a grueling training and racing schedule Elledge has a History Department scholarship for outstanding scholar in American studies.
For her second year with Washington rowing Elledge is a recruited Division One athlete on a partial athletic scholarship.
