Get up close and personal with SR 529 Ebey Slough Bridge girders

June 13, 2011

MARYSVILLE – Crews building a new State Route 529 bridge over the Ebey Slough are only weeks away from reaching an important milestone on a project to reduce congestion and provide more reliable travel options for Marysville-area drivers.

The media is invited to get a behind-the-scenes look as construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) set the 49 girder sections that will form the backbone of a wider, taller bridge over the Ebey Slough. The sections are 100 to 135 feet long – about the length of three school buses – and will be assembled to form seven massive girders.

Reaching this important milestone means crews are on track to start moving traffic to the new four-lane bridge by next spring. Come tour the project site as the girder sections are moved into place and the new bridge takes shape above the Ebey Slough. WSDOT project staff will be on hand to discuss the work crews have accomplished to keep such a major project on schedule.
