Viking girls basketball cruise through Wenatchee tournament

January 3, 2012

Viking girls cruised through a pair of lopsided wins in the Wenatchee Holiday Basketball Tournament last week.

Lake's defense smothered Walla Walla 53-34 on Tuesday, then did the same to host Wenatchee 55-30 the following day to bring home the championship.

The wins pushed Lake's season record to 9-0. Lake dominated both teams from start to finish, leading Walla Walla by 33-17 at halftime and Wenatchee by 28-18 at intermission.

Lake had three double figure scorers versus Walla Walla: Katie Goddard and Brooke Pahukoa with 14 points each and Brittney Pahukoa with 10.

Against Wenatchee Goddard nailed two of her five three pointers in the opening minute and finished with 22 points, while Brooke Pahukoa added 17 points.

Viking boys lose to Ingraham 59-56

Viking boys did not fare as well as the girls in holiday play, losing its opening game of the Port Townsend Crush In The Slush Tournament 59-56 on Wednesday.

Lake trailed 36-24 at the half but rallied late to nearly pull out the win. Kevin Smith led Lake in scoring with 17 points while Brady Pahukoa and Christian Gasca scored 10 apiece for the Vikings.
