The Lake Stevens Wrestling team’s streak of consecutive district championships ended at 12 this weekend as the Vikings came in second to Snohomish at this year’s Wesco 4A district tournament.

This is only the second time since 1991 that the Vikings haven’t won the district tournament. The Vikings were left short handed at the start of the tournament when two of their top seeded wrestlers, Dakota Reynolds (113 lbs.) and Jesse Peterson (120 lbs.) failed to make weight knocking them out of the tournament.

Reynolds, a senior and two time state qualifier was ranked third in state while Peterson, a junior and state finalist last season was ranked second in the state.

The Vikings finished with four individual champions to Snohomish’s three however 22 of Snohomish’s 28 wrestlers finished in the top eight, which score team points, while only 16 of Lake’s 22 wrestlers placed high enough to score team points.

The Vikings were unable to match the Panther’s depth and lost 405-305.
