Sherwood Community hosts free event “Cheers to 55 Years”

March 6, 2012

Sherwood Community Services will host a cocktail party commemorating its 55th year providing services to Snohomish County’s children and adults with disabilities from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 10 at Swans Trail Farms in Snohomish.

Community members are invited to relax and enjoy beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres while learning more about the services Sherwood offers county residents.

The event is free, and no donations will be requested. It is a day to celebrate the organization that Sherwood has become, learn about the services it offers, and make new friends and connections.

Based in Lake Stevens, Sherwood provides innovative, inclusive services to children and adults with disabilities in their communities throughout Snohomish County.

“The community helped to build Sherwood and its services,” said Pattie Urie, Interim Executive Director, whose daughter is also a Sherwood client. “We want the community to help us celebrate the last 55 years, and we hope to see past, current and future clients and their families as well as businesses, volunteers, donors and other agencies with whom we collaborate from throughout Snohomish County.”

Sherwood was established in 1957 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1963. It began serving young children with severe disabilities and started a work program for adults with disabilities. As public schools opened their doors to more of these school-age children, Sherwood began to focus increasingly on early intervention services for children from birth to 3 years old and on employment for disabled adults. Sherwood’s third core service is an assistive technology program, which serves people of all ages in Snohomish County.

Sherwood is unique in providing these three services that cover the lifespan of people with disabilities in both the urban and rural parts of the county.

Swans Trail Farms is located at 7301 Rivershore Rd. in Snohomish.
