The Committee to Elect Dave Hayes proudly announces the candidacy of Dave Hayes (R), Camano Island for the fall 2012 election as State Representative 10th Legislative District Position 2. The position, currently held by Barbara Bailey (R), Oak Harbor will become vacant with Bailey’s recent announcement to challenge Mary Margaret Haugen (D), Camano Island for the 10th District Senate seat.
“Upon learning of the vacancy and with the support of various local community members and leaders I have decided to file as a candidate for election to the position of state representative. I have over 17 years of experience as a community servant as a law enforcement officer, I would like to take my sense of service to the next level by serving the citizens of the 10th Legislative District in Olympia,” says Hayes.
Hayes is a veteran law enforcement officer currently serving as a Sergeant with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. He has extensive experience representing his fellow officers as an elected official of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association and currently serves as the President of the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs. WACOPS serves over 4500 law enforcement officers statewide. The organization protects the rights and quality of life of police officers and criminal justice issues before the Washington State Legislature. Hayes also teaches part-time at Everett Community College and is a member of the EvCC Criminal Justice Steering Committee.
Hayes has resided on Camano Island for the past 15 years where he and his wife have raised two sons. They are active members of Camano Lutheran Church, Hayes has also coached youth sports and served on his local water association board of directors. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
“As a family man and instructor I believe that every one of our children deserves an education that sets them up for success. As a law enforcement officer I feel that we all have the right to feel safe and secure. To that end, education and public safety will be among my top campaign platforms. I also believe that regulations on our local businesses are stifling job growth and slowing our economic recovery. We must have legislation that serves people in the most fiscally responsible and efficient manner as possible” states Hayes.
