BBQ championship highlights fairgrounds’ outdoor expo

Fire, smoke, spices and meat - the sweet smells of spring - will be in full force during the third annual Evergreen Recreation & Sportsman Expo, featuring top-notch BBQ competition teams from across the Pacific Northwest, April 28-29.

Competitors will compete for a share of a $3,500 cash purse and qualify for a chance at an invitation to the prestigious Jack Daniels Invitation BBQ Championships during the Washington State Spring BBQ Championship.

This is a standard two-day BBQ championship featuring pork, beef brisket, chicken and pork ribs. The winner will receive $1,000. Bad Draw Wrestling will sell pulled pork samples and raffle a rack of ribs to raise money for local youth Wrestling.

The Pacific Northwest BBQ Association (PNWBA) will host a certified BBQ judge class on Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. Once certified, participants are eligible to judge at any PNWBA sanctioned event.

Also being offered Saturday on the hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be free 30- to 45-minute BBQ classes and demos open to everyone at center stage. Hosts include Grand Champion Pit Master Lynnae Oxley from http://www.thebbqclass.com<http://www.thebbqclass.com>; and the 2011 PNWBA Team of the Year Grand Champion Pit Master JD and Ronna McGee of Wine Country Q.

The free, two‐day expo produced by Snohomish County Parks and Recreation features displays and demonstrations on camping, fishing, landscaping, gardening, climbing, boating, ATVs and much more. Hours are 10 a.m.‐5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.‐4 p.m. Sunday.
