Sunnyside students get a visit from police, firefighters

May 15, 2012

Lucky winners from a drawing at Sunnyside Preschool and Kindergarten got to take a special ride along with the Lake Stevens Police Department to reinforce the Risk Watch Safety lessons they learn at school.

Junior police officers and firefighters at Sunnyside Preschool and Kindergarten recently joined the Lake Stevens Police Department officers and Lake Stevens Firefighters for a ride along to reinforce the Risk Watch Safety lessons taught at Sunnyside.

The winners of a drawing held at Sunnyside were transported by fire truck or police vehicles to the downtown Lake Stevens stations where they joined their teachers and fellow classmates for tours of each facility.

The children and their parents took part in the multiple interactive lessons at each station.

“The children were very excited to see Lake Stevens Public Safety Educator, Alison Caton, who visits the school on a regular basis to teach the various lessons associated with the Risk Watch program,” Cindy Petosa Brengman owner and director at Sunnyside said. “Having the connection between the school and the facilities brings the lessons full circle and gives them a better understanding of public safety operations in their community and how they function. Our civil service community working together for a safe community sends a strong, positive message to children and supports the collaborative approach we promote at school. ”
