Family outreach soon to be available in Granite Falls
After months of planning the Lake Stevens Family Center and Lutheran Community Services along with the City of Granite Falls has opened a new facility located at 9424 Portage Ave. behind McDonald’s which will help local families in need of many services.
Services that will be offered through the outreach facility will include help with resume writing and finding job leads, DSHS and WIC help, locations for food and clothing help and other public services for families in need.
“HP computer work stations have been donated from Radia that a volunteer has completed installation of OS and software, so they are set and ready to install at the facility,” Director Kathleen Friend said.
Comcast should be in soon to install cabling needed to hook-up the computers.
“We have secured money to have a Survival Budgeting Class and to procure some much needed data collection stuff that I will be purchasing this week,” Friend said. “I have submitted another grant that will hopefully help pay for the community assessment.”
All of the funds needed to open this facility have either been donated or received through grant money, including office supplies.
Furniture from the previous facility has been donated as well.
They are still looking for people to join the Advisory Council which helps makes the major decisions for the facility.
There will also be staff for at least 15 hours a week.
Several volunteers have expressed their wanting to help paint, clean and do whatever is necessary to get the facility open.
The need for an outreach facility in Granite Falls came when the Lake Stevens Family Center realized that over 10 percent of those coming into the Lake Stevens facility were from Granite Falls.
