*Snohomish County* "Highway and construction Updates"

August 10, 2012

Friday, Aug. 10, kicks off a busy weekend of construction around Puget Sound [ ] – including projects in Clearview and Lake Stevens. As part of a project to widen SR 9 between Maltby Road and 176th St. SE [ ], crews will close the highway from 9 p.m. Aug. 10 to 2 a.m. Aug. 12. During the closure, they’ll dig down 12 feet to remove an old, narrow culvert and will install a new, 84-inch-diameter, 140-foot-long culvert in its place. Local traffic will be allowed between SR 524 and 197th St. Other drivers will follow a marked detour [ ] on SR 524, SR 527 and 180th St.

In Lake Stevens, crews will close down the SR 9/SR 92 intersection [ ] from 10 p.m. Aug. 10 until 7:30 a.m. Aug. 12. During the closure, we’ll widen, pave, stripe and install guardrail to make the intersection work more smoothly; Detour routes [ ] will take you on local roads around the intersection. On Sunday morning, drivers will have an extra southbound lane on SR 9, an extra left-turn lane from southbound SR 9 to eastbound SR 92, a second left-turn lane from SR 92 to SR 9, and extended right-turn lane from northbound SR 9 to SR 92. Not bad for 33 and a half hours of work.

And if you’re headed to Seattle, you’ll want to add an hour to your travel time. Crews have a full closure of SR 520 [ ] between Montlake Boulevard and I-405, and a full closure of SR 167 [ ] between I-405 and 180th St. We’ve got travel tools [ ] to help you plan, so don’t say we didn’t warn you…and we’re serious about that “add an hour” thing.

We’ll have a closure next Tuesday, Aug. 14 for tree removal (yes, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.), and then we’ll have one more blast Wednesday, Aug. 22, before we take a break to avoid affecting Evergreen State Fair traffic. Blasting photos [ ] and video [ ] are available online. As always, bookmark our Snohomish County construction update [ ] page for the latest work schedule or call the project hotline at 877-832-0303.
