Tuesday, Aug. 7, downtown Lake Stevens was packed with community members celebrating National Night Out Against Crime with the Lake Stevens Family Center along with other cities around the country.

The event aims to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Event sponsors donated items for a silent auction to support local families in need. There was a free laser battlefield, a bouncy house, treats from the Kiwanis and many more activities for kids and adults alike.

“The kids love it, especially the fire truck,” said Derrik Sergent. Sergent has a three-year-old son who spent most of the evening running between the fire truck and the race cars.

There were fire trucks, emergency vehicles, race cars, Harleys and military vehicles for those who like to go fast.

North Cove was alive all night with DJ Bob Justice and MC Mike Friend. The Cove audience enjoyed Miss Washington singing the National Anthem, a flag presentation by American Legion Post 181, a dog show by K9 Academy and more.

Mayor Little closed the evening by thanking the community for coming.
