The second annual Guns and Hoses Softball tournament took place on Saturday, August 25 at the Lake Stevens High School new baseball field.

Lake Stevens Fire District and Lake Stevens Police got together in a fun game to help support the Lake Stevens Family Center and the Lake Stevens Food Bank.

Those who came to the game brought boxes of Macaroni & Cheese and toys that will be distributed to help local families.

“This is a great community event for a good cause, and we love beating up on the police department,” Lake Stevens Fire Chief Dave Lingenfelter said.

And beat up on them they did. The First District’s team of 12 beat the 11-member police team 16-9 in nine innings.

The fire district was ahead the whole game but the police did rally with a four run inning in the bottom of the eighth. Officer “The Hitter” Blakely decided to make a run for it figuring he had nothing to lose making his hit that inning a homerun.

“We started this a couple of years ago to fundraise for the Lake Stevens Family Center and the Lake Stevens Food Bank,” Lake Stevens Police Chief Randy Celori said. “We used to do something similar in the Army, except we played football.”

Umpires Vick Carter and Garren Sweeney donated their time to help with this great cause and Miss Aquafest Aliyah Riggen sang the National Anthem.
