Monte Cristo Elementary teacher Debra Howell was named the National VFW winner last year and was awarded $2,000 for her service to the military.

Howell got to keep half of the money for herself and the other $1,000 was given to the school district where part of it was used to purchase POW flags for local schools.

Students will also be presenting one of the flags to the City of Granite Falls.

On Friday, September 21, Howell and her class presented the flags to the other schools within the district.

To honor these students and Ms. Howell, the Blackjacks, a team of pilots who fly Blackjack bombers in formation, performed a flyover in support of the efforts to have the POW flag at all of the schools in Granite Falls.
