IGA bagger competes in Washington Food Industry Association’s “Best Bagger” competition
Brandi Whitaker, of Granite Falls, competed in the Washington Food Industry Association’s “Best Bagger State Championship” held Thursday, October 25 at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center. Brandi works as a courtesy clerk at Granite Falls IGA.
The Best Bagger Contest is an annual event that invites contestants representing grocery stores from across the state to compete for the coveted title of Best Bagger.
The statewide winner gets an all-expense paid trip to participate in the National Best Bagger competition in Las Vegas in 2013 and a $1,500 cash prize.
The competition recognizes employees who play an integral role at grocery stores, whose job often goes unappreciated.
“Believe it or not, bagging groceries is an art form,” Washington Food Industry President and CEO, Jan Gee, said. “A well-packaged bag of groceries ensures the customer will get their groceries home in good condition and a courtesy clerk’s positive attitude is integral to ensuring that a customer comes back again.”
Each contestant is graded on speed, technique, weight distribution, attitude and appearance. Whitaker is excited to represent Granite Falls IGA and the college freshman spends her time off from work reading, writing poems and playing X-box.
