January 28, 2013

Granite Falls High School junior Aakash Sethi has been accepted into the Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) 2012-2013 program. Sethi was selected from over 280 students from 119 different public, private and home school organizations who applied to participate in WAS.

Sethi will spend the next five months competing academically for one of the 160 slots in a Summer Residency session held at the Museum of Flight in June and July.

Sethi maintains a 4.0 GPA with a strong interest in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) field. He has completed classes in calculus, physics, honors English, AP Language and History and is currently taking Calculus II, Spanish II, and Computer Programming for Engineers and Scientists through the Running Start program at Everett Community College.

He is a three-year member of the Granite Falls High School Eco-car team and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club.

Sethi took first place in the state FBLA last year and competed at the national FBLA competition. He is also a two-year member of the Knowledge Bowl team and three-year cross country team member.

High School science teacher Steven Howell said, “Aakash has a personal commitment to excel at school. Everything he does is to meet the highest academic standards. His work ethic is second to none.”

Last year, Sethi competed in the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU Poly) Cybersecurity Awareness program.
