Senior Center raised funds for life-saving device
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), is known to be the leading cause of death in the United States. Since senior citizens are the highest-risk category, Louise Fellows, who is a member of the Lake Stevens Senior Center noticed that her organization had no immediate ability to address the possibility of this type of medical emergency, beyond simply making a 911 call.
Like so many other sites where people gather (including airliners), a heart defibrillator has proven to be an invaluable solution. Her fundraiser, to acquire an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), for the Lake Stevens Senior Center, has had an overwhelming response, by members and friends, with generous donations, for purchase of this equipment.
The goal was to acquire the AED, by February 14. The LSSC center took delivery at their weekly luncheon on Feb. 15. The presentation was made by Louise Fellows.
Special thank you to Laura Schreiber, and to all of the people who gave generously to the fundraiser, as well as to the Lake Stevens Fire Dept. which has offered to train any potential operators of the device.
