Classroom fundraiser to benefit soldiers

April 16, 2013

Multiage students (grades 4, 5, 6) at Monte Cristo Elementary School in Granite Falls are holding a unique fundraiser, Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Wild for Pets pet store located at 104 E. Stanley St. in Granite Falls.

The community is invited to have pictures taken with a canine friend and be interviewed by students so the students can then create a personalized haiku poem. Pictures are limited to dogs only (no other pets) and all dogs must be on a leash.

Students will be available via Skype from the school for the interviews. On May 8 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m., the pictures and haiku poem will be on display in the gym at Monte Cristo Elementary. The 5x7 picture and poem can be purchased for a minimum donation of $5, with all proceeds to help send care packages to overseas soldiers.

Multiage instructor Debra Howell has a long history of assisting veterans. Care packages are sent regularly to soldiers in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait.

This fundraiser will help pay for the largest expense, the postage, and also to purchase otter pops and hand warmers, both items that have been requested from the soldiers.

For more information on getting your picture taken, contact multiage instructors Debra Howell at dhowell@gfalls.wednet.edu or Mike Schireman at mschireman@gfalls.wednet.edu.

The multiage class is accepting cash donations regardless of participation in the fundraising event. Make all checks payable to the Bob Donnelly Foundation and send to Debra Howell at Monte Cristo Elementary School, 1201 100th St. NE, Granite Falls, WA 98252.
