Community visits Mt. Pilchuck and Cavelero to see learning in action
Six community members participated in tours of Mt. Pilchuck Elementary School and Cavelero Mid-High School, led by Dr. Amy Beth Cook and Principals Chris Larson and Mike Snow. At each school, participants visited classrooms to see teaching and learning and explore programs and activities.
At Mt. Pilchuck, guests were greeted by Principal Larson and the leadership ambassadors who explained the Leader in Me Program. From there, they visited the Giving Garden, where they were treated to two special songs from kindergartners.
The tour group also observed a kindergarten literacy lesson, a fourth-grade reading discussion and special education students learning with technology.
Guests then boarded a school bus to Cavelero, where they were welcomed by Principal Snow and taken on a tour of a language arts class, an engineering class and a math class.
The visit ended with a special lunch from the Food and Nutrition Services Department, where guests selected made-to-order entrees from the school’s Soaring Dragon and Deli Style bars.
Throughout the tour, guests were able to ask questions to learn more about the schools, staff, programs and district as a whole. This was the second community tour of the 2012-13 school year.
