Falls Prevention Seminar offered at Senior Center

June 18, 2013

Join the Lake Stevens Senior Center (2302 Soper Hill Road) on Wednesday, June 26 from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. for a Falls Prevention Seminar presented by the Falls Prevention Coalition of Snohomish County with Lake Stevens Fire.

Our society does not realize the serious consequences and costs associated with falls, nor the tremendous number of seniors that experience falls. The statistics are sobering:

• 1 in 3 persons age 65 and over will fall;

• 1 in 10 falls will result in a serious injury;

• Seniors who fall are 3 times as likely to fall again.

Unfortunately, the State of Washington has one of the highest recorded number of falls nationally. Falling is not a fact of the aging process. While we cannot turn back the hands of time, we can take steps to stay active and independent by preventing falls. By making some simple changes the chances of falling can be greatly reduced.

The Falls Prevention Coalition of Snohomish County was established in 2008 to educate seniors about the seriousness of falls and the steps that can be taken to prevent falls from occurring. For more information contact the Senior Center at 425-335-0345.
