City of Lake Stevens announces upcoming updates to 2012 construction codes
The City of Lake Stevens is expected to adopt updated Building and Fire Codes. These codes are a set of rules that specify the minimum acceptable level of safety for constructed objects such as buildings and structures.
The main purpose of Building and Fire Codes are to protect public health, safety and general welfare as they relate to the construction and occupancy of buildings and structures. Codes regulate the design and construction of structures where adopted into law. Modern construction codes have been in place since the City incorporated in 1964.
Every three years, the International Code Council review and adopt building and fire codes.
The 2012 draft codes have recently been published by the International Code Council for review and adoption by Washington State by July 1, 2013.
The City of Lake Stevens is required to update the City’s Building and Fire Codes for consistency, although specific amendments for use within the City can be made for City adoption.
Over the next few months, the draft codes will be discussed with the City Council on July 22 and a public hearing will be held on August 12 before final adoption.
Both will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Center which is located at 12309 22nd Street NE, Lake Stevens.
The City seeks public comments. An email list is being created for “Interested Parties” to be updated on the project.
Information will also be placed on the City’s website with updates to the email list. If you would like to be included on the Interested Parties List, please send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have questions related to this information, please call Larry Skinner, Building Official for building and construction codes (425-377-3228 or email@example.com) or Robert Marshall, Fire Marshal for fire codes (425-212-3042 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
