Guns ‘N Hoses brings good times and generosity

August 27, 2013

The annual Guns ‘N Hoses softball game took place at Lake Stevens High School’s new baseball field on Saturday, August 24 and this year’s game did not disappoint.

Lake Stevens Fire got to maintain their bragging rights as the winners at this year’s fun, family competition.

Lake Stevens Police Department brought in six runs, two of those home runs from Officer Danny “Wild Thing” Planalp and Frankie “The Franchise” Nelson, one right after the other.

LSFD’s pitcher, Deputy Chief Larry Huff pitched a great game as well as bringing in a few runs of his own. The team consisted of both paramedics and firefighters. Together they made 23 runs in nine innings.

This annual event was put together by LSFD’s Laana Larsen and LSPD’s Julie Ubert in an effort to bring in donations to help support the Lake Stevens Family Center.

This year folks were asked to donate a snack to give to the LSFC.

Both the firefighters and police donate their time for this great cause each year in an effort to help provide for the needs of the community.

DJ Bob Justice also donated his time, talents and equipment and LSHS donated to use of the field. Umpires Gary Smith and Chris Jones also donated their time and Mayor Vern Little joined the police as their base coach.

Miss Aquafest 2012 Alliyah Riggen started the festivities with a heart-warming performance of our national anthem. Even the LSHS football players, who were practicing at the stadium, stopped, removed their helmets and placed their hands over their hearts while she sang.

Thanks to all of those who participated.

The Lake Stevens Police team included Chief Dan Lorentzen, Ron Brooks, Jimmy Zachor, Jamie Blakely, Chris Lyons, Danny Planalp, Michael Hingtgen, Matt McCourt, Chad Wells, Andy Thor, Frankie Nelson, Craig Valvick, Jared Wachtveitl and Dennis Irwin.

Lake Stevens Fire’s team included Deputy Chief Larry Huff, Capt. Welch, Capt. Rasmussen, Paramedic Terry, Firefighter Hamblin, Firefighter Blake, Firefighter Kees, Firefighter Chester, Firefighter Eagle, Paramedic Aamold, Firefighter Korf and Firefighter Clint.
