Thanks to all who enjoyed, helped with Movie in the park

Dear Editor,

All of us at Bourne Orthodontics would love to thank the City of Lake Stevens along with the Lake Stevens Arts Commission for making our first Annual Movie in the Park possible.

All the time and patience the City of Lake Stevens took to make this happen and lead us to the great folks at the Arts Commission is truly appreciated. We would also like to thank Mary Beth at Windermere for all the great tips!

Almost 400 attended our first annual Movie in the Park! We had the nicest families come and enjoy The Lorax with us and for that we are very grateful.

We truly have the best community here in Lake Stevens. We are looking forward to next year!!

Congress could learn from local volunteers

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to the volunteers helping to feed “hundreds of kids” this summer. (‘Volunteers feed hungry kids through summer’ by Journal Staff, Lake Stevens Journal, August 28, 2013).

They set a great example for Congress to do the same in a country where one in five kids experience hunger issues. And in our world where three million children die each year of starvation and millions more permanently stunted physically and mentally from lack of food.

As citizens we can change this by letting our elected officials know that this must change. Pick up the phone and ask your representative to co-sponsor House Resolution 254 to scale up nutrition assistance aid and to pass a bill that feeds ALL of America’s hungry.

Sanctuary Ministries able to help many through donations

Dear Editor,

Thank you to all who contributed clothing, shoes, and coats to the Sanctuary Ministries YES! We Care back-to-school giveaway.

Your donations made the difference for over 300 people who came and shopped for free and left with smiles on their faces. Kids and parents alike walked out with bags filled with clothing, shoes and coats.

In addition, we were able to supply about 160 school supply kits to kids, which were filled with paper, notebooks, folders, crayons, glue sticks, erasers, pens and pencils.

We also handed out 225 hot dogs, and the face-painting booth was busy all day.

To your readership we would ask that you remember that we give away clothing, coats, shoes and bedding every week through our Care Center on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

You are welcome to shop and we are always in need of your donations, which are fully tax deductible and can be made at the church during office hours. Remember, everything is distributed for free to those in need.

Pictures of the giveaway and more information about the Care Center can be found on our website, http://www.sanctuaryministriesnw.com along with directions and any additional information you might need. The church office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m ., and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon. The office telephone number is 360-386-9871.
