Local Tae Kwon Do students kick their way to $4,000

September 17, 2013

Master Shin of Tigers Black Belt Academy holds a check for $4,000 raised for Children’s Hospital.

The Inaugural Lake Stevens Health Kick, hosted by Master Shin’s Tigers Black Belt Academy, took place on Saturday, Sept. 14 in North Cove Park. Students, family and friends participated in individual and team kick-a-thons, as well as board breaking, in order to raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital Greatest Needs Fund.

Participants aged 3 to 63 garnered pledges leading up to the event and, after more than 18,000 kicks and 40 broken boards, the grand total raised for the Greatest Needs Fund was $4,000.

After the final total was determined, Master Dong-Il Shin, Lake Stevens’ 2013 Citizen of the Year, said, “At Tiger’s, we don’t only learn how to kick and punch. We must help to make our community stronger. Raising money for Seattle Children’s Hospital is just one of the ways that our students can contribute positively to their community. We are all happy to have raised this money and to help those who need it most.”
