Comic book lovers enjoyed time at GF Library

September 24, 2013

The Granite Falls Library welcomed comic book and manga lovers on August 24.

At the request of the library’s teen advisory group, the library hosted a mini-comic-con. Participants arrived in costumes ranging from Star Trek characters to zombies. Participants were also encouraged to display their comic style art.

The day started with games and a gallery time. At 1:30 p.m ., Bill Doran, owner of Punished Props, showed off some of his props and taught about his craft. He walked through the process of creating awesome props and told how he got started building props full time. Nate Zimmer, owner of N8Zim Photography and Design, explained how he used his skills to help bring the props to life. To wrap up the day, people viewed a movie.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to browse a selection of the graphic novels Sno-Isle Libraries has in the collection. There were also books on creating comics, building props, and costumes for participants to check out.

This event was funded by the Friends of the Granite Falls Library. The Friends provided prizes, paid the presenter, and provided treats and pizza for participants. DR Hobby donated a $20 gift card to support the event.
