Robbery suspects at Lake Conner Grocery caught within minutes

October 1, 2013

On Sunday, September 22, clerks at the Lake Conner Grocery Store at the corner of 2730 Hartford Dr. were robbed at gunpoint by a male suspect.

The 911 call came into the Lake Stevens Police at 4:18 p.m. and patrol was dispatched immediately.

“A male subject entered the store, brandished a firearm and demanded money,” Lake Stevens Police Detective Dean Thomas said.

The store clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of money before he ran to a car that was waiting outside with a driver.

“The suspects fled in a car and a description of the vehicle was given and patrol spotted the vehicle,” Thomas said. “The vehicle had parked and two males were seen walking away. When patrol went to contact them one of the males fled the scene and the other male was detained.”

The car was spotted on the 2200 block of 117th St. NE where it was parked behind a box truck that was already in the lot.

The 32-year-old and 17-year-old suspects parked the car and tried to hide it behind a truck,” Thomas said. “Both suspects were identified by two witnesses at Lake Conner Grocery.”

One suspect was detained within minutes of the robbery and the other took off on foot.

“With the help of County K9 the other suspect was found and they were both booked,” Thomas said.

The 17-year-old suspect was booked into the Denny Youth Center while the 32-year-old suspect was booked in the Snohomish County Jail.

“The first suspect was detained within six minutes. The other one was found several minutes later,” Thomas explained.

The getaway car was seized pending a search warrant.

“I wrote a search warrant on the car and recovered the gun and money,” Thomas said. “It was great job by patrol.”
