October 8, 2013

Sherwood Community Services is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Executive Director to lead our organization into the future. Sherwood Community Services provides innovative and inclusive services to children and adults with disabilities in their communities throughout Snohomish County. Services include early support to infants and toddlers, employment support for adults, and assistive technology services to people of all ages.

Lance Morehouse started as Executive Director on August 1. Lance comes to us with 15 years of non-profit experience and extensive knowledge of people with developmental disabilities. He has organized successful grassroots advocacy on behalf of people with developmental disabilities and their families for many years and knows the legislative system well. Lance also has a personal connection to this work as a parent of sons with significant disabilities and lives in Lake Stevens.

Jim Stephanson, who led the Executive Director Search committee of the board, shares “ We are very excited that our search for a new Executive Director for Sherwood a great balance of system experience and understanding, strong leadership skills, and a personal passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities as well as their families. We look forward to seeing Morehouse help Sherwood grow and prosper.”

Sherwood has 50 employees and is located in Lake Stevens although we provide services throughout Snohomish County and as far as Camano Island. The organization was established in 1957 to meet the needs of people with disabilities who were not being served in public schools. When public schools started to serve students with disabilities in the early 70’s, programs and services evolved to avoid duplication and continue to provide for the un-met needs of individuals and families.

“I am very happy to join the staff at Sherwood and add my efforts to help continue the good work that has been done by dedicated staff for decades” says Morehouse.

Please join us for our “Scoring Goals for Disabilities” Dinner Auction the evening of October 24 at Comcast Arena to meet and help us welcome Lance. For more information on Sherwood Community Services and our Auction please visit http://www.sherwoodcs.org or call our office at 425-334-4071.
