Change your clocks, check your batteries and practice your plan

It’s that time of year again, when the daylight hours start to get shorter. Sunday, November 3 at 2 a.m. is the official time in which your clocks will need to “fall back” an hour.

Lake Stevens Fire will be at Haggen and Jay’s Market on Friday, November 1 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with reminders to change your clocks, check your batteries, and practice your escape plan!

The “fall back” and “spring forward” time changes are great reminders of changes and checks that need to happen twice a year: clocks and batteries!

Typically, 9-volt batteries should be checked once per month and changed once per year, while ten-year lithium batteries just need to be tested on a monthly basis to ensure they are working properly.

This is also a great time to practice your fire escape plan. Make sure that every family member knows how to get out of every room and knows where your family meeting place is located.

Public Educator Jennye Cooper commented, “Having working smoke alarms is a crucial part of being able to escape a fire safely. It’s important to make sure they are working and your entire family recognizes the sound of the alarm and knows what to do if the alarm goes off. ”
