Support schools with the upcoming levies

The Lake Stevens School District’s Maintenance and Operations (M&O) levy and a technology levy will both be coming up for a vote in February 2014.

Both of these levies are extremely important for our students here in Lake Stevens to be able to continue to receive the exceptional education they are getting and to move ahead when it comes to technology in our schools.

I know that in the past, the Lake Stevens community has always been supportive of levies and bonds and, in turn, has shown their support by voting yes for our students.

In the next few months there will be community meetings and opportunities to get involved in this important vote.

The Concerned Citizens Committee for Lake Stevens Schools will be holding their first meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14 and are inviting anyone who would like to get involved, provide input or just get up-to-date information, to join in that meeting.

It will be held at the school district’s Educational Services Center at 12309 22nd St. NE at 5:30 p.m.

In the coming months the Concerned Citizens Committee will be holding informational meetings that will explain exactly what these levies will cost taxpayers and what they will provide to our schools. It is important to be informed and make an educated vote.

Also, watch for information right here in The Lake Stevens Journal as we continue to update our readers of meetings and details about the levies.

Remember that these levy dollars will be used for learning, not buildings. A sure way to remember is Levies are for Learning and Bonds are for Buildings.

I hope that many of you will get involved in this important process and that we will see both of the levies pass come February, for the sake of our students and teachers.

We want our students to be successful in the world once they graduate from High School and these levies will help them be able to do that and to be competitive.
