On Tuesday, November 12, 2013 the Lake Stevens City Council passed a resolution adopting a newly updated version of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP).
The CEMP establishes an all-hazards approach to enhance the ability of the City of Lake Stevens to manage emergencies and disasters. The purpose is to save lives; protect public health, safety of property, the economy and the environment; and foster a return to a normal way of life after a large scale emergency.
Starting in 2012 Sergeant Craig Valvick of Lake Stevens Police Department and Mark Murphy of the Snohomish County Department Management created an emergency management design team.
The team, which meets monthly, quickly grew to include Lake Stevens Fire, Lake Stevens School District and Lake Stevens Sewer District. The team partners to share information, identifies emergency management projects and sets short and long term goals for increased preparedness.
One of the very first goals was to build a strong foundation with a current up-to-date CEMP basic plan. Now that this goal has been achieved that team will move forward with more advanced projects, some are already in progress.
The emergency management design team looks forward to a continued interagency approach to emergency preparedness.
The cooperation will allow for additional inclusive plans to be developed for improved efficient response to emergencies.
