LSPD make arrest in the Whidbey Island Bank robbery
Scott K. James was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 24, the day after his 47th birthday and the day before Christmas as the suspect in the April 26, 2013 bank robbery of Whidbey Island Bank in Lake Stevens.
A photo taken at the bank identified James, who once lived in Lake Stevens. A relative of James' saw the photo on a Crimestoppers poster and called Auburn police.
Auburn police were also working with Bellevue police on robberies that have occurred in those cities. When they saw the photo of the bank robber in Lake Stevens, they felt that the suspect could be James and contacted the Lake Stevens Police.
"We received a call on Monday, Dec. 23 from a detective in Bellevue and they invited us to a meeting to interview the suspect," Lake Stevens Interim Police Chief Dan Lorentzen said. "We interviewed him and he admitted to the robbery in Lake Stevens."
James was booked into jail on Dec. 24 and told police that he had robbed the bank out of financial desperation.
James only admitted to the Lake Stevens robbery but is still a person of interest in several bank robberies throughout the region.
