Affordable ski helmets available at Lake Stevens Fire

Snow and ski season has finally arrived. When families head to the mountains to enjoy snow sports such as skiing, snowboarding and tubing, Lake Stevens Fire and Safe Kids Snohomish County want to encourage everyone to protect their heads by wearing a properly fitted helmet.

Ski/snowboarding helmets, which can reduce the severity of a head injury, should be worn and fit properly to a particular individual.

Lake Stevens Fire is proud to offer ski and snowboard helmets at a cost of $25 each which includes a custom fitting. Available sizes include small, medium, and large; and they will fit young children through most adults.

The helmets, provided by Safe Kids Snohomish County, are of equal quality to the helmets found in specialty stores, for a fraction of the cost and come with lined padding and ear covers. The cost of the helmet allows us to restock another helmet so we can continue to offer this service throughout the winter months.

Neither Lake Stevens Fire nor Safe Kids Snohomish County profits from the cost.

Public Educator Jennye Cooper commented, “The correct helmet should be worn for the appropriate recreational sport. Multisport helmets may look similar to ski helmets, but they do not offer the same amount of protection as a helmet specifically designed for skiing and snowboarding.”

To purchase a ski helmet, contact Lake Stevens Fire at 425-334-3034 to set up a fitting appointment. The person for whom the helmet is intended must be present at the time of fitting and purchase.

Lake Stevens Fire and Safe Kids Snohomish County remind you to take precautions and be safe through the winter season. For more information, visit Lake Stevens Fire at their website http://www.lsfire.org and Safe Kids Snohomish County at their website http://www.snosafekids.org.
