Granite Falls appoints new school district board members

At two Special Board Meetings held on Wednesday, January 15 and Wednesday, January 29, the Granite Falls School Board of Directors interviewed candidates to replace Siobhan Sullivan's term.

Sullivan resigned for the second time in November as her name was not removed from the ballot after her first resignation and thus, she was eligible for re-election and the people elected her.

In fulfillment of Sullivan's term as Director District #3 representative for the School Board, the Board appointed Shana Hoople, on January 29 at the Special Meeting.

Hoople will begin her term after being sworn in at the regular board meeting next Wednesday, February 5 at 6 p.m.  The term is for two years.  After two years, the position will be up for election.

Hoople is an alumni of Granite Falls School District. She currently resides in Granite Falls with her husband and two children whom attend the Granite Falls schools. She is a broker and Office Manager for Windermere Granite Falls.  She is a very active member in the community, specifically in youth sports.

In addition, the Granite Falls School Board of Directors appointed a second board member to fulfill the Director District #2 position that was open.

After four years of dedicated service to the Granite Falls School District, Board President Rebecca Loney, stepped down from her position as the Board Director District #2 representative at the regular board meeting held December 4, 2013.

The Board held an interview for the position at the January 29 meeting and appointed Robert Butler for District #2.  Butler will begin his term after being sworn in at the regular board meeting next Wednesday, February 5 at 6 p.m.  The term is for two years.

Butler is newer to Granite Falls but is already very active in the community.  He is on the board of TECO and supports GFHS football.  He is married with three boys and is eager to work on the school board and serve the entire community.
