The 2014 Aquafest Committee has chosen the Grand Marshals for this year's big event.
Bill and Donna Iffrig were honored at a meeting held on Thursday, Jan. 23 by the Aquafest Committee.
Aquafest's First Vice-President Janice Huxford introduced the Iffrigs to the crowd.
"I was really surprised," Bill said about being selected as Grand Marshals. "It's an honor."
"It's interesting," the slightly shy Donna said.
Bill and Donna have lived in the Lake Stevens area for 49 years. They were annexed into the city when the south side of the lake was annexed a few years ago. Their address was once East Everett but their hearts belonged to Lake Stevens.
The Iffrigs have three children, however, one of their sons was killed tragically in a car accident.
Bill and Donna were both active in Boy Scouts with their sons, who both earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Bill was a Scoutmaster and Donna served as Den Leader.
They are also active members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
Bill loves to climb and is an active member of the Everett Mountaineers. His training includes running, which helps him stay in shape for his climbs.
Between running and climbing mountains he has gained notoriety not only in the Northwest, but recently on a national level because of being dangerously close to a bombing at the Boston Marathon. Many of us remember Bill in the videos and photos as he fell near the finish line.
This year's Grand Parade will take place on July 24, which is also Bill and Donna's 60th wedding anniversary.
