Three North County Restaurants Win Food Safety Excellence Award
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash.— Three North Snohomish County food operations received three of the seven Food Safety Excellence Awards from the Snohomish Health District at a Health Board held on February 11, 2014. This is an incredible honor and achievement as Snohomish County currently has 4,500 food permit holders, but only a handful of operations win the award.
Each year the food safety inspectors nominate food service businesses that have not had any food code violations within the past year. Once nominated their inspection reports are reviewed by the Food Advisory Committee (a group composed of restaurant owners, managers, chefs and food safety specialists).
The Snohomish Health District created the Excellence Awards program in 1989 to strengthen its restaurant and food service inspection program. Currently the Health District has 11 food safety inspectors that are responsible for visiting each establishment at least once a year. Facilities with more extensive offerings or potentially hazardous food products are inspected three times per year.
Snohomish County Councilmember Ken Klein recognized these facilities by stating, “I am proud to have these businesses in our community. The excellent services they provide are what make North Snohomish County a great place to live, work and play.”
The businesses recognized at yesterday’s meeting from North Snohomish County are;
Fast Service Establishment—County Burger, 3110 Lakewood Rd., Arlington, Wash. The company’s mission is to, “…Serve the community by consistently providing a clean, fund and friendly atmosphere for our customers to enjoy food at reasonable prices”. Country Burger has lived up to their mission and has earned a reputation for being one of the cleanest and best operated restaurants in Snohomish County.
Temporary Food Establishment—Ohana BBQ is a relatively new operation but has already gained a positive reputation for their food safety practices. The Snohomish Health District recognized them for their, “…Established progressive food safety practices when inspected at the Marysville Strawberry Festival”.
Grocery Store—Wal-Mart #3757 4010 172ND St. N.E., Arlington, Wash. Store Manager, J.E. Fritz Fittinger was recognized for his involvement is daily operations. Under his leadership, this store was awarded recognition for its outstanding sanitation practices.
