Principal Larsen Thankful to Volunteers

When principal Chris Larson and the Mt. Pilchuck staff and students learned that their school had been selected as the site for a ForestCity Community Day project, they were excited about the possibilities. By the time the last rake was loaded and the final volunteer left the parking lot on May 9, the whole school was elated and their beloved elementary school was sparkling. Each year, ForestCity Residential Group closes their offices and sends crews into the community to complete service projects. Volunteers armed with paint brushes, shovels, power tools and positive attitudes showed up early in the day, many commuting from as far away as Poulsbo. They pulled weeds, constructed fences, built picnic tables, planted flowers, painted and unloaded countless trucks of beauty bark. Along with the volunteer labor, representatives from ForestCity partnered with their vendors and suppliers to provide all of the materials needed to complete a wide range of “wish-list” projects at Mt. Pilchuck. In thanking the crew for their incredible service, Principal Larson noted that “the kindness, hard work, and dedication of the ForestCity crew was inspiring to our staff and students. Of course, “The Mountain” has been given a dazzling face lift, however, the ForestCity crew modeled to our students and staff the meaning of service leadership. It is a lesson that we will remember and try to pay forward in the future.”
